An innvestigation is under way into allegations of daytime drug dealing at a Wigan shopping centre.
Police pledged to look into claims by a councillor that he has witnessed people selling drugs in the car park at Scholes shopping precinct.
Independent Conservative group leader Gareth Fairhurst says it is one of a number of incidents he has witness
ed in the immediate area.
He has now written to Greater Manchester Police's Wigan Division Chief Supt Lee Bruckshaw calling for a clampdown.
Today officers pledged to investigate his report and are making arrangements to interview him.
Coun Fairhurst said: "I was talking to a local constituent who told me to watch because a car would shortly be pulling up to deal drugs and sure enough within a minute or two a car appeared and that happened in broad daylight.
"Some people might not think that Wigan has a problem in this area but residents are telling me that it most certainly does."
Supt Paul McIver from GMP's Wigan division said: "We take all reports of criminality seriously, especially reports of drug dealing.
"Such reports are always fully investigated and acted upon and tackling drugs is a top priority for us here in Wigan.
"We have dedicated teams of officers across the force who work tirelessly to combat the supply and use of illegal drugs and members of the public are vital in that fight.
"I would encourage anyone who has any information about any such activity to call police immediately.
"The Area Inspector will be making contact with the councillor to discuss his concerns."

A spokesman for Wigan Council said they were working with Community Safety Partners to tackle those suspected of using and dealing drugs.
The spokesman said the council would use all legislation available to them to deal with the issue.
